Scandinavian style Christmas cards with Sizzix papers and dies

Hi,
Do you make your Christmas cards yourself? I love sending hand made cards to my friends and loved ones. Each year I choose only one or two designs that are easy to make, as I don't want to spend weeks on finishing the cards. Yet I always envy those paper crafters who start their Christmas card project already months in advance and are able to create lots of fabulous cards with lots of details- those cards are truly little pieces of art!

Hei,
Niistä jokainen on pieni taideteos!

Simple Scandinavian style card designs work well for my purpose. I was happy to hear that Sizzix has published a beautiful collection of Scandinavian style digital papers that are available to upload for free. There are also beautiful card making project ideas for which the papers were used. Just follow *this link* to get the entire collection and to download the project instructions.

I downloaded and printed the entire collection of papers, and made a few card samples myself. In addition to the printed papers I used a few pieces of leftover cardstock in red, light grey and white, and some of my favourite Sizzix dies. All the below five cards were made in one evening, so these designs work very well for 'mass-making' dozens of cards.

I hope you like my little card collection:

Latasin ja tulostin kaikki sarjan paperit ja ohjeista inspiroituneena päätin tehdä muutaman kortin myös itse. Kuviopapereiden lisäksi käytin silppulaatikosta poimittuja paloja punaista, vaaleanharmaata ja valkoista kartonkia, sekä muutamaa uutta Sizzixin stanssia. Kaikki nämä kortit valmistuivat yhdessä illassa, joten näitä tekee nopeasti suurenkin määrän!

Toivottavasti pidät malleistani:

For cutting the christmas tree I used this lovely Thinlits die, designed by Tim Holtz:

Joulukuusen leikkaamiseen käytin tätä Tim Holtzin suunnittelemaa Thinlits-stanssia:

Red top and bottom borders of this flower card are cut with a die from this Sizzix Thilits die set. For the flower I used my new Sizzix paper punch (more info here):

Tämän kortin ylä- ja alalaidan kuviot on leikattu tämän Thinlits-stanssisetin stanssilla. Valkoiset kukat on leikattu uudella Sizzix-kuviolävistäjällä (lisätietoa täällä):

For cutting the center panel of this card I used another die from this Sizzix Thinlits die set. That set of dies can be used in so many ways! The image is cut twice, and continuing the pattern is very easy when using a magnetic platform under the die.

Tämän kortin kuviopaneeli on leikattu toisella saman stanssisetin stanssilla.

For my fourth card I wanted to die-cut a star similar to the ones in the background paper. For that I used an older Bigz die that cuts star-halves with fold marks. Like the simplicity of this card!

Neljänteen korttiin leikkasin kolmiulotteisen tähden, jonka muoto toistuu myös taustan kuviopaperissa. Stanssina Bigz-tähtikuvioterä muutaman vuoden takaa. Mielestäni malli on yksinkertaisuudessaan varsin kiva!

On the last card I just layered pieces and strips of my printed patterned paper. The star medallion is die-cut with a circle shaped Framelits die, and glued on the background. Oh I love those papers!

Viimeiseen korttimalliin voi käyttää kaikki aiemmista korteista yli jääneet paperisuikaleet. Keskellä olevan tähtikuvion leikkaamiseen käytin pyöreää stanssia.

Which one of the five is your favourite?
Happy crafting!
Hugs,

Mikä näistä malleista on sinun suosikkisi?

Upcycling on November Take It Make It project: NYC

Hi and happy Saturday,

Many gorgeous entries have been linked to November Take It Make It challenge (view them all here). Looking at the vibrant collection of stamped projects really gets my inspirational juices flowing-- I think I need to continue playing with my stamps tonight!

Before that I wanted to stop by to show you my latest stamped project I made for TIMI challenge:

Marraskuun Craft Stamper Take It Make It -haasteeseen on jo lisätty monta upeaa leimailuprojektia - oletko jo ehtinyt tutustua siihen? Osallistumisaikaa on vielä, joten lähde rohkeasti mukaan. Luvassa on hieno arvontapalkinto!
Tässä toinen haasteeseen tekemäni työ, jossa keltainen leikkiauto sai uuden elämän pienessä sisustustaulussa:

Last weekend my son was going through his toy cars, and putting aside some that he thought he would not play with anymore. One of those cars was a yellow taxi, and I immediately remembered my new 'Sketchy Cities America' stamp set by Altenew. The yellow 'HotWheels' toy car had lots of decoration on it, but I removed them with nail polish. I thought my NYC yellow taxi should not be covered with hotrod style flames :D

I started the project with stamping the NYC skyline on white cardstock. For this I used black Archival Ink that easily gives a crispy image, and once heat set on the (semi) glossy cardstock it does not bleed over water-based Distress inks.
For background coloring I used yellow, orange and red Distress inks. The original idea was to keep the background as simple as possible, but I could not resist splashing water on the inked surface. I love that technique!

Aloitin leimaamalla kaupungin silhuetin valkoiselle kartongille mustaa Archival Ink -mustetta käyttäen. Koska kartongin pinta oli hieman kiiltävä, kiinnitin musteen kuumailmapuhaltimella. Tämän jälkeen saattoi taustan värjätä huoletta vesiliukoisella Distress-musteella ilman pelkoa kuvan suttaantumisesta.
Ennen seuraavaan vaiheeseen siirtymistä roiskin hieman vettä mustepinnan päälle, jolloin sain pintaan hieman elävyyttä. Miten helppo tekniikka koristella tällaisia väripintoja!

Then I stamped the image repeatedly on white cardstock. This time I used black Distress as my ink, as I was going to colour the image with alcohol markers. A general rule of thumb is: when colouring with water soluable markers, stamp the image with dye ink, and when using alcohol markers, use water soluable ink for your image. Then you don't need to be too careful when colouring, your image lines will not bleed.

Leimasin kaupunkikuvion muutamaan kertaan valkoiselle kartongille, sillä tavoitteenani oli tehdä kaupunkitaustasta kerroksellinen ja siten hieman kolmiulotteinen. Värittämiseen käytin alkoholitusseja, jolloin valitsin leimasinmusteeksi vesiliukoisen mustan Distress-musteen.

Then, starting from the buildings on the back, I chose a few that would make my first layer of the stacked background. I coloured them, cut them out, leaving them attached to the bottom of the image. Then I glued them on the inked card background.

Aloitin kerrosten rakentamisen kuvan taaimpana olevista rakennuksista.

First layer done
Second layer done
On the second layer I cut out those buildings I had coloured on the first layer, and again chose a few more buildings for the second layer. Coloured them, cut the skyline out, and attached to the background with 3D foam tape.

The third layer contained all the buildings in the front row, and once they were coloured and cut, I attached that layer again with 3D tape on top of the previous layers.
Then I placed my NYC skyline in a black wooden frame (size 6" x 4").

Kolmannessa kerroksessa jatkoin samaan tapaan - poistin toisen kerroksen rakennukset kuvasta ja väritin eturivin rakennukset. Leikkasin irti ja kiinnitin kuvan päälle kohotarrapaloilla.
Valmiin työn sijoitin 10x15 cm kokoiseen valokuvakehykseen.

For attaching the yellow taxi on the frame I used heavy gel medium.

Keltainen taksi on kiinnitetty taustaan ja kehykseen gel mediumilla. Toki muukin vahva askarteluliima olisi käynyt tähän hyvin.

Done! I think I was able to turn my project vision into a fun home decór element quite well!

Valmista tuli! Pienestä sisustustaulusta tuli juuri sellainen, kuin olin toivonutkin!
Toivotan sinulle mukavaa viikonloppua. Ehkä inspiroidut osallistumaan haasteeseemme?

Please visit Craft Stamper Take It Make It blog for viewing all DT inspiration projects. It was quite a fun coincidence that our DT Kymona Tracey had used the very same stamp for her card project. You can view her piece of art here.

Card for November Take It Make It Challenge: Everyday miracles

Hi,

In Finland we are entering the darkest times of the year. Days are short and getting even shorter-- when you drive to work in the morning the sun has not risen yet, and when you leave home in the evening you might see the last sunrays over the horizon (if you're lucky). For keeping my spirits up I often try to compensate the lack of bright daylight with plenty of bright colors on my craft projects. Like on this card I made for November Craft Stamper Take It Make It challenge:

November TIMI challenge is easy to take, as anything goes! The only requirement is to use stamping somewhere on the project. For viewing all the gorgeous DT projects and for reading more about the challenge please visit TIMI blog here.

The yellow flowers on my card are made with Stampin'Up stamps and a matching paper punch. This is a simple, quick to make card that can easily be modified for various occasions by using different colour combinations.

So grab your stamps, create your own project and link it to TIMI blog. That way you might be the lucky winner of our November prize (set of 7 masks and stencils) sponsored by Magenta!

Magenta are very kindly offering a special shipping deal for all Craft Stamper readers shopping in their store! Readers are entitled to a $5 flat shipping rate on all stencils, masks and cling stamps. Simply enter the code PromoCSUK. This offer is open  November 7th-30th 2015.

Card for November MMCC: Together

Hi!
November Mixed Media Card Challenge has a beautiful theme: Family. Theme and timing could not have been more perfect, as in Finland we were celebrating Father's day on Sunday. My family themed card was made for my husband.

Here's my take on the challenge:

I started with coloring the background with Distress Paints:

Foxes are die-cut from white watercolour paper using two different Sizzix fox die sets. For colouring I used a few orange and yellow watercolour tones. The fox parents are simply glued down on the card front, and the little foxes are attached using 3D foam tape.

Card title is die-cut using Tim Holtz 'Handwritten Love' die set. I cut the title twice to make the word a bit thicker. Thin and delicate die cuts may be difficult to adhere with glue, and for this double card title I used thin two sided tape on the upper die-cut word (adhered on the back of the cardstock before cutting).

Leaves on the bottom of the card are fuzzy cut from a patterned paper I had in my stash.

Once the card fron was finished my kids wrote their own greetings on the back of the card. Size of this card was bit bigger than normal (13.5 cm x 17 cm / 5.5" x 6 3/4"), so there was plenty of space for their writings♥.

I wish you a lovely new week.

Flower card for Jehkotar Craft Challenge DT

Hi,
Yesterday was the launch of a new Finnish craft challenge blog, Jehkotar Craft Challenge. I'm so happy to be part of the JCC design team!
Every month, on the 3rd day, a new challenge is revealed. It consists of three parts; a technique or theme prompt, inspiration picture(s) and a sketch. The task is to use at least one of them, but one can choose to use several or even all of them, too. Fun, isn't it!

Hei,

Here's the November challenge (inspiration prompt translated: Lots of embellishments, flowers and sparkle)

My card contains lots of flowers and golden sparkle (suggested by the theme prompt), and pink color picked up from the inspiration picture:

Minun kortissani on koristeiden ja kukkien runsautta, kimaltavaa kultaa ja inspiraatiokuvasta poimittu vaaleanpunainen väri:

Patterned papers and pink mists I used for the watercolor background are from 13 Arts collection.

Once the background was dry I dabbed VersaMark through a stencil and heat embossed a pattern with gold color embossing powder.

Flowers are die-cut from white watercolor paper (using Sizzix/Tim Holtz Sizzlits decorative strip die), assembled, misted pink, and glued on the background. Under the flowers there's a piece of black die-cut grid (using Sizzix Thinlits card front die).

Kukat on stanssattu valkoisesta vesivärikartongista (stanssina Sizzixin/Tim Holtzin kukkastanssi), liimattu yhteen, värjätty punaisella suihkemusteella, ja kiinnitetty kortin taustaan. Kukkien alla tuo kontrastia pala mustasta kartongista stanssattua ruudukkoa (Sizzixin korttipohjan kuviostanssia käyttäen).

Hope you like my card! Wishing you a nice week.
Hugs,

Toivottavasti korttini ja Jehkottaren kiva haastetehtävä saavat sinut tarttumaan askartelumateriaaleihin - olisi kiva nähdä sinun työsi haastetöiden joukossa. Osallistujien kesken arvotaan hieno leimasinpalkinto - lue lisätiedot täältä!
Mukavaa viikkoa toivottaen,

Farewell to Sketchabilities: Scrapbooking layout using sketch #148

Hi!
All good things eventually come to an end. After six (!!) amazing years of inspiring sketches the last Sketchabilities sketch was revealed a while back. I want to thank Karan Gerber for the amazing opportunity to be part of the last design team. What a ride that was! There was so much talent in that team, and I also want to thank all the warmhearted DT girls for sharing your inspiration, ideas, and enthusiasm with me. I fully understand that managing two sketch challenge blogs among other duties is a lot of work, and I support Karan fully in her decision to allocate her time for other things and activities in her life. Which there are a lot! Please follow this link to read her farewell words.

Here's the last Sketchabilities sketch #148...

... and my take on it:

The picture on this layout was taken last May when we spent a long family weekend in London. Visiting that city had been a long time dream of my daughter and she was so thrilled to finally be there. Our hotel was just a short walk away from London Eye, so on the first day we took a ride on it to see the beautiful city from high above. My daughter spotted Big Ben immediately and was so happy to see it for the first time. Truly a moment to remember!

The background of the layout is decorated with spray mists and stamps. The lovely floral pattern is from a stamp set by Nathalie Kalbach. I really love her desings!

All the inspiring Sketchabilities sketches are collected on one board in Pinterest. View them all here.
For cardmakers I suggest you visit Karan's Cardabilities sketch collection board-- just follow this link!

Wishing you a wonderful weekend!
