This photo is one of my all-time favorites, even though it was taken several years ago. For this scrapbook layout, I kept the color palette just as minimal as the photo itself, using mostly different shades of white and pink. The page has also touches of black and green, but overall the design is built around just two main colors.
Whenever I start a new scrapbook layout, my design process usually begins with either a patterned paper or a photo. If I'm inspired by a beautiful patterned paper—often one I've just added to my stash—I choose a photo that shares something with it, whether it's the colors, the theme, or even the shapes found in the paper's design. If matching a photo to the paper feels too difficult and I'm determined to use a particular background, I sometimes choose a black-and-white photo instead.
More often, though, the photo comes first and sets the direction for the whole layout. I usually work with a single photo, or occasionally two very similar ones. For this page, the photo guided my choice of patterned paper. That said, I had a feeling I'd find the perfect match among MimaMolina's designs for AB Studio—and I was right! The background paper is from her Cream collection.
The soft pink branches and leaves with their beautiful watercolor effect are acetate embellishments from 49 and Market. I love using them on scrapbook layouts because the patterned paper shows through the transparent acetate, allowing the background design (or even the main photo!) to remain visible.
Of course, that transparency also creates a challenge: how do you attach the embellishments without the adhesive showing through the acetate? For a long time, I hesitated to use acetate embellishments for exactly that reason. Then I discovered USArtQuest Perfect Paper Adhesive (PPA) – Matte. It provides a strong hold and dries completely clear, making it perfect for acetate embellishments. I can highly recommend it!
