Wings, inks and warm colours

Hi!
Today I'm sharing with you two tags I have made already a while back. The tags are connected not only by their insect theme, but also by a similar colour palette combining yellows and browns. These were such fun to make!

For the background of this first piece, I first stamped a number pattern on the cream colour tag using light yellow acrylic paint. Once the paint was dry, I brought out the pattern with brown Distress Ink. I also splattered some water over the ink, which added even more liveliness to the larger areas of colour. Combining techniques like this is an easy way to create interesting patterned backgrounds!

The clocks were stamped onto thin tissue paper, and attached to the background using collage glue. I gave the insect a slightly three-dimensional effect by adding a clear acrylic button over the clock face in the centre, and layering second set of wings on top of the ones stamped onto the background. I finished the piece with the title text and a few splatters of paint.

The background of the second tag was also coloured with ink and splattered with water, and the honeycomb pattern was stamped over the inked background. The insects were stamped directly onto the background as well, but I then added matching images stamped onto white cardstock, coloured and fussy-cut, gluing them over the original stamped images.

A similar result could have been achieved by stamping the insects onto the background first and covering the images with masking paper or masking fluid before working on the background. However, for this project, the technique I used felt like the easier and more enjoyable option.

Yellow, orange and brown are warm colours that I really enjoy working with. Do you have any favourite colour combinations that you find yourself using again and again in your projects?

Wishing you a wonderful day. Thanks for stopping by!
