Today I'm sharing a slightly different kind of scrapbook layout that I completed some time ago. Although it's my usual 12" × 12" size, its overall style is perhaps closer to an art journal page than a traditional scrapbook layout.
The background patterned papers are from 13 Arts and were released a few years ago. The bold, graphic portrait design immediately caught my attention, but it took quite a while before I found the right project for it. I cut the portrait out of the original paper and adhered it to a simple soft-coloured background.
I also embellished the page with a few other fussy-cut elements from the collection. I arranged the fussy-cut pieces side by side on the background, creating a mosaic-like effect.
The quote on the page was created using Dina Wakley's word stencil and white texture paste. I've used this stencil to create phrases for several of my art journal projects before, and I still love the effect it creates. Also the used font is timeless and nice.
Every now and then, it's good to try something new and create a project that's a little outside your usual style. You may be surprised by how much you end up enjoying the result. And if it doesn't work out, you can simply toss the ugly project in the recycling bin and move on to the next idea—after all, it's only a few sheets of paper.
