It's first day of April which means that it's time for another Mixed Media Card Challenge!


Blooming spring is soon here, so this month we are making projects filled with beautiful flowers. Check out the gorgeous entries by MMCC design team here and play along!

This time I decided not to make a traditional flower card, but to try out something different. I had planned for some time already to use the beautiful Stampendous face stamp for a project, and I thought this was the perfect occasion to get it into use. Here's my take on the flower theme:



For the white project background I used heavy but a bit glossy office paper. That paper is one of my favourite card making materials, as it tolerates wet media quite well, and the glossy surface is perfect for inking. And it's not too expensive either!

I started this project by stamping the face image on the white paper. Before misting the background with light yellow mist I covered the main image with masking fluid. Once the yellow mist was dry I stencilled some patterns on the background with gel medium. Gel medium acted as a resistance, so when I continued misting with red and brown colours the stencilled spots remained light yellow; Original background colour was showing through the gel medium layer.

These were the two Stampendous stamps I used. I love the flower stamp, but thought the fine lines were bit too delicate for this project. Before colouring the flowers with markers I enforced all the lines with a black pen. I think that way the flowers were just perfect for my card!




Once the yellow-red-brown background was dry I removed the masking fluid and coloured the image with a few shades of grey. I like building strong contrasts on my projects, and that's what I included here, too: bight and colourful together with simple black and white. Yes, I like the outcome!




I had so much fun making this project, and I hope I was able to inspire you to make your own MMCC card. Maybe during Easter weekend you'll be able to allocate some time for crafting. I know I will! :D
