Mixed Media Card Challenge: August

Happy Friday to you,

July just flew by, and we are already in August. This also means that it's time for the second Mixed Media Card challenge!
We got an amazing number of entries for the July challenge. In case you missed our July challenge winner and highlights, just visit this link and get inspired by the amazing creations!

In August we are still enjoying the beautiful summer, and also the new Mixed Media Card Challenge is all about summer:

So take out your bright color paints, summer themed stamps, burlap pieces, and be artsy. Be messy. Be creative!!

Here's my summer themed card with burlap flowers and warm yellow and orange colors:

I started with misting a piece of white heavy office paper with a light yellow mist. Once dry, I added some texture with a text stamp.

Using a circle stencil I dabbed Versa Mark ink on the misted background. The clear embossing ink created a resist allowing the light background to show through when the background was re-misted with darker colors.

If you want the stamped texts only to show in the embossed areas, use water-soluable ink (like Distress).  I wanted the texture to show on the entire background, so I used a permanent ink that did not dissolve into the darker mists.

When creating a small sized mixed media background for a card I like to use a larger piece of cardstock which I cut to size just before attaching on the card front. A larger surface is way easier to work on, and the left over pieces can be used for later projects.

For the flowers I used some old canvas ribbon I had in my stash. I punched a 1" circle from white cardstock, attached one end of the ribbon on the center with a mini stapler, and twisted the ribbon around the center. I used hot glue to fix the ribbon on the cardstock.

For the leafs I die-cut a large flower from green craft core cardstock. Before removing the leftover pieces around the die-cut image, I sanded the die-cut image lightly. Then I inked the petals, detached them, and folded to half.

(Here's a link to the Sizzix die I used - follow the link to read more info)

The flowers are die-cut from burlap paper using this die (click link for more info). Before gluing down the ribbon center circles I painted the flower petals with gel medium. This allowed curving the stiffed petals, and also stopped the edges from fraying.

I wish you an inspiring weekend jump start :D
Thanks for stopping by!
