Card for MMCC DT: Key to my heart

Hi to You,
It's the first day of October which means that it's time for another great Mixed Media Card Challenge:

Even if I love bright colors, I like to use softer earth tones on my crafting projects. Cardmaking in vintage style using different shades of brown, gold, and dark reds was a perfect task for me - I could just sit back, relax, and let the creative flow carry me :)

Here's my take on the challenge:

I started with inking a sheet of semi-glossy heavy office paper (my no 1 choice for inking techniques!) with several shades of brown, yellow and orange Distress Inks. When finished, I added a bit of texture with splashing water on the inked surface and drying the water drops with a paper towel.
I continued with decorating the background with a vintage stamp by Heidi Swapp (yes, the backround is stamped using only stamp only!), and inking the background edges with a hint of black ink.

The center piece is die-cut from thin plain chipboard using Sizzix Heart&Wing die set. I love the versatility of them - you can really use them for various projects from weddings to Christmas and Valentine's to vintage projects.
(Quick heads up for my European crafting friends: This die-set is available for a VERY good price of EUR 3.44 in Sizzix UK web shop)
Wings are painted with gesso, coated with clear crackle paint by Ranger, and inked with black Distress. The inner heart is inked with red Distress, coated with clear crackle paint, and inked with black Distress. The outer heart is painted with golden acrylic crackle paint, and inked with brown Distress.
The little black metal key is from an old 7gypsies pack of mini keys.

I mat the card front on black paper, attached on the card front, and glued down strips of paper thread on the bottom and top of the card front. I'm pretty happy with the outcome, it turned out quite the way I wanted!

Now it's your turn: I hope you get inspired, take out your mixed media supplies, play along our October challenge and create a card in vintage style. For more information about the challenge, and for linking up your finished project, please visit MMCC blog.

Happy crafting!
