Happy Halloween!

Hi,
The fun, playful, orange highlight of the dark autumn, Halloween, is just around the corner. My kids are planning how to dress up for their Halloween parties, and their bubbling excitment is making me smile.

October Mixed Media Card Challenge is also all about the Halloween colours black and orange. However, this bold color combination is perfect for non-Halloween projects and cards, too. I suggest you hop over to MMCC blog to see all the gorgeous projects the DT has made; just follow the links here, here and here!

Hei,

On my mixed media card I played with my favourite inking and stamping techniques:

Värjäsin oman korttini vesiliukoisilla leimamusteilla ja koristin leimatuilla, stanssatuilla ja käsin leikatuilla koristeilla:

The background of my card is plain white carstock that I inked with yellow and orange Distress inks. The splashes are made with splashing clear water on the inked surface (lighter spots) and picking up ink from my craft mat (darker spots).

That technique is called 'Wrinkle-Free Distress Ink Technique' and it is an easy way to create great textures on plain cardstock. Ranger tutorial is abailable in YouTube.

Taustan vaaleat pilkut on saatu aikaan roiskimalla vettä musteella värjätylle kartongille. Tummat pilkut on poimittu musteella värjätyltä askartelualustalta. Rangerilla on tästä hyvä tekniikkavideo YouTubessa - kannattaa katsoa!

The bird is stamped on white cardstock ('Bird Crazy' stamp set by Stampers Anonymous) and die-cut using the new matching Sizzix Thinlits die set. Black fence is die-cut with Sizzix 'Ironwork Gate' decorative strip die, and the spider and sentiment panel with Sizzix/Tim Holtz 'Cobweb Blueprint' dies. This set contains also matching stamps, and the spider web on the upper corner is stamped with the set main image.

Hauska lintu on leimattu valkoiselle kartongille, ja stanssattu käyttäen uutta Bird Crazy -leimasinsettiä täydentävää Sizzixin stanssisettiä. Näillä stansseilla saa helposti leikattua hankalan mallisen lintukuvion irti taustasta, ja luotua kolmiulotteisuutta pohjakuvion päälle liimattujen yksityiskohtien (silmät, siivet, nokka) avulla.

As this was a Halloween themed card I decorated the bird with a hat and a pumpkin basket. Those were included in 'Crazy Things' accessories set. The hat I wanted to use had to be flipped horizontal to fit on my bird. This was done easily with 'Flip Stamping Technique' (great tutorial on the technique can be read here). Using cling film is a clever idea; I just used water-soluable black Distress ink and the back of a large texture stamp:

Halloween-teemaisen kortin lintu piti koristaa teemaan sopivilla asusteilla. Näitä onkin uusi Stampers Anonymousin Crazy Things -leimasinsetti täynnä! Setin hattu oli tarpeeseeni nähden väärin päin, joten käänsin kuvion leimaamalla hatun tekstuurileimasimen taustan kautta paperille. Tästä hyödyllisestä tekniikasta on hyvät kuvalliset ohjeet mm. täällä.

The colored hat and pumpkin basked were fussy cut with scissors and craft knife.

Creating this fun card put me in Halloween mood-- hope it will inspire you, too!
There's still time to enter our October MMCC card challenge and I'm hoping to see your black&orange cards in the link list.

Mukavaa loppuviikkoa toivottaen,

Wishing you a great day,

Art journal page with stamping and watercoloring

Happy Sunday to You,

I love playing with watercolors!
When creating watercolor backgrounds I often start by brushing plenty of water on the watercolor paper. Starting with the light colours I add color on the wet paper, and use my heat gun to push the watercolors around the paper. When the paper is dry I repeat the steps with darker shades or different colors. For that technique any type of watercolor can be used, but the cheap ones tend to crumble and break when dried to thicker color layers. Liquid watercolors often work better.

The fun thing is that you cannot completely control the flow of colors as they like to take their own paths. And that's what makes the creative process so enjoyable and exciting!

Many of my recent projects have some watercolored elements, so for me the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge had the perfect theme this week: 'Wonderful Watercolor'. Here's my Monday Challenge inspired art journal page:

The stamps are from two Dina Wakley sets; 'Scribbly Women' and 'Face in the Crowd'. I stamped them on watercolor paper with VersaMark, and heat embossed the images with black embossing powder.

Before gluing down the images I stamped some more patterns, and added blue, green and yellow sewing yarn on the background.

White chains are punched from leftover watercolour paper using EK Success paper punch.

This art journal page makes me so happy. Love the grungy woman images and the bright colours!

Wishing you a colourful and inspirational day,

Autumn themed scrapbooking layout for Paperilla DT

Hi!
A new season in our Paperilla blog has started. I'm so happy about our new design team- there's an amazing amount of talent, covering various paper crafting specialty areas. This will be so much fun!

Uusi kausi on käynnistynyt Paperillan blogissa.

Our first theme was 'Autumn'. I had made a moodboard to inspire the designers, and in our blog there are beautiful projects of different type and style. Just follow this link to see them all!

Ensimmäinen teemamme oli ajankohdan mukaan 'Syksy'. Kokosin syksyisistä kuvista moodboardin tiimiläistemme inspiroimiseksi - käy katsomassa kaikki upeat työt tämän linkin takaa!
Minua syksyn väriloisto inspiroi tällaiseen skräppileiskaan:

The bright autumn colours inspired me to make this scrapbooking layout:

The background paper is from 7 Dots Studio collection 'Domestic Goddess'. This collection was released in 2012, and it's been one of my favourites ever since. The designs are so timeless!
This '12th Teacup' paper had lovely floral drawings on it, but to emphasize my love for vivid autumn colours I decided to add some more colour using my watercolour pencils. I think it worked out pretty well!

Taustapaperi on 7 Dots Studion sarjasta 'Domestic Goddess'. Lopputuloksesta tuli oikein mieluinen!

Paperi näytti tältä ennen väritystä:

This is how the paper looked when I started:

In addition to the coloured images I thought that the layout did not need much extra embellishing. Using a stencil and brown Distress Inks I created patterns on the center of the background, doodled circles with a black marker, and sew with my sewing machine crossing lines over the inked pattern. The layout clearly needed a frame, so I stiched few times around the page.

Väritetyt kuviot koristivat mielestäni sivua jo riittävästi, eikä muita koristeita juuri tarvittu. Valokuvan alle tein hieman kuviopintaa levittämällä ruskeaa Distress Ink -mustetta sabluunan läpi. Piirtelin sabluunakuvioihin ympyröitä mustalla tussilla ja ompelin koneella ristikon kuvioiden päälle. Leiska kaipasi mielestäni myös kehykset, joten tikkasin suoralla koneompeleella muutaman kierroksen sivun reunoja pitkin.

Tausta näytti tältä ennen kuvan ja stanssattujen paperikoristeiden kiinnittämistä:

Here you see the background finished before the photo and die-cut embellishments were adhered to it:

Title 'Syksy' means 'Autumn'. It's my favourite time of the year. No doubt.

Syksy on lempivuodenaikani. Aivan ehdottomasti.

The leaves are die-cut, inked and crumpled before glued down. The brown and green felt ferns are old sticker embellishments I found in my stash. (Note to myself: Go through your stash more often. You'll never know what you'll find, lol!)

Mukavaa viikkoa sinulle. Jos Paperillan teema inspiroi sinua, linkitä oma työsi blogijutun loppuun ja osallistut samalla syksyn arvontoihin!

The past few weeks have been really beautiful in Finland. Lots of sunshine, chilly mornings, bright blue sky and amazing fall colours. Pure autumn love.
